Funk. What is funk? It’s many things: a genre of music, an adjective to describe an odor (oooh, what is that funk I’m smelling?), or it can even be a mood or a feeling. Well, for me, I’ve been in a bit of a funk. And, it definitely wasn’t something to sing or dance to! Nor was it some kind of smelly thing – although it did make me feel kinda yucky.
You might be thinking, “So, what got you into the funk? Why did you stay there? What got you to recognize you were there?” All great questions! And, I’ll be as forthcoming as appropriate.

First Up: What Got Me Into The Funk?
Well, just like many other people, stuff just happened. The passing of family and friends, serious health issues for my awesome fur baby, work issues, and then self-confidence issues, all of which then contributed to a cycle that took me into a downward spiral. The spiral included way too much eating and sitting around feeling sorry for myself for the fact that things just weren’t going as I’d hoped.
Then Came COVID!
I had finally gotten myself in a semi-determined state. Started back to the gym – and I even was going before work! That’s determination, huh! I’d started to get into a good routine of being at the gym by 6:30am. About 2 weeks into my new routine and then BOOM, here comes COVID! All of a sudden, the gym was abruptly closed and everything in life that would help to elevate my feelings just came to a halt. Well, that’s just great! NOT!!
Instead of adjusting that newfound determination to the new “normal” and coming up with alternative ways to keep me moving in the right direction, I slipped back into old habits. The “COVID 15” (similar to the Freshman 15) turned into the “COVID 30” for me, which then compounded my funk feeling. I didn’t want to do anything that I didn’t absolutely have to do.

Thank God The Gym Opened
Seven months of “the blahs” took a toll on everything about me. And then, thank God, the gym finally opened at the beginning of this month. That gave me a little incentive to get out of my funk. Thankfully, the whole time that the gym was closed, I still had my alarm going off at 5:30am. That way, it wouldn’t be quite as difficult to get back into that routine. And, I’m happy to say that I’m back to my early morning gym visits. Do I go every morning? No. But I do go more often than not. I also have been eating a little better. I’m not quite back to before when it comes to workouts and diet, but I’m moving in the right direction. Baby steps, y’all!
Anything Else?
So, in addition to not wanting to workout or eat healthy, I also had very little desire to write – which is why I had not posted anything for over a year. (I’ll wait while you look back at the post dates!) And, that’s really a shame because it was something I had enjoyed doing. So part of working on my attitude was getting my blog back up. I had some great help with a new layout and basically learning the ins and outs of WordPress again. But then I couldn’t expect the posts to write themselves.
I must admit that writing hasn’t come back to me as easily as getting back to the gym. I’m definitely still working on it. Got myself set up for YouTube videos to go along with my blog, and I did a couple of short posts to start getting my feet wet again. But, I’ve not been totally in yet though. Probably just up to my ankles.

And What’s Next?
Then I got a little proverbial butt kick from someone today. And, as a result of that little butt kick, I decided to write this post. I won’t say who it was. They know who they are and that I appreciate the kick.
So yep, you can definitely expect to see more from me coming in the near future. I actually have four draft posts that are still waiting to be finished and published. I reckon I will work on finishing them – one of them is so close to being finished already! That’ll make it easier to get back into the groove – and I do want to be groovy! Is everything else now as I would like it to be? No, but I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. So, stay tuned…
