So, this Mantra Moment focuses on relaxation – what aspects of my life need to relax, and the ways in which I try to go about it.
What are the three areas that I focus on for relaxation? They are physical, mental, and emotional.
Physical relaxation This is something that can be accomplished with relative ease – well, at least for me! I do this by sitting in a chair and closing my eyes. Or, for me, the ultimate in physical relaxation ends up in with me falling asleep.
Mental relaxation Mental relaxation is when I am able to take a short “vacation” from the stressors of the day. I will listen to music, read a book, or watch a television program that requires no thought.
Emotional relaxation This is the hardest for me to do. Our emotions are so much a part of us. They go deep to our core. I’m not one for meditation or yoga as a form of total relaxation, although I know they work well for others. I like to go for a casual walk outside while listening to some calming music. Being able to cleanse my mind and body through deep breathing while walking seems to help. Am I always successful? Nope! But, it is definitely a good start for me.
What’s the right length of time to relax? Your relaxation can be for 5 minutes, 5 hours, or whatever amount of time works for you. If you can only relax for 5 seconds, that’s 5 seconds you have given to yourself.
And, you sure do deserve it!
